چکیده

The study of Temporal Representation and Reasoning is a core area of research in Linguistics, Philosophy and Artificial Intelligence. However, very little work has been done in analysing the principles common to these three areas. This paper attempts to investigate major issues and approaches studied in these disciplines. In this attempt, we discovered the Philosophical origin of Allen’s Interval Algebra. We present an analysis of major issues and approaches proposed in these areas to handle temporal representations. Further, a variant of Neighbourhood Logic, Neighbourhood End-Point Model (NEPM) is proposed. It is shown that the Disjunctive Normal Neighborhood Logic Form (DNNLF) of NEPM provides an elegant interpretation for the tautologyhood of Allen’s Interval Relations. We expect NEPM to be further developed for unifying temporal reasoning approaches proposed in Linguistics, Philosophy and Artificial Intelligence.

Context-aware Modeling for Spatio-temporal Data Transmitted from a Wireless Body Sensor Network

Context-aware systems must be interoperable and work across different platforms at any time and in any place. Context data collected from wireless body area networks (WBAN) may be heterogeneous and imperfect, which makes their design and implementation difficult. In this research, we introduce a model which takes the dynamic nature of a context-aware system into consideration. This model is con...

Mixed Qualitative/Quantitative Dynamic Simulation of Processing Systems

In this article the methodology proposed by Li and Wang for mixed qualitative and quantitative modeling and simulation of temporal behavior of processing unit is reexamined and extended to more complex case. The main issue of their approach considers the multivariate statistics of principal component analysis (PCA), along with clustered fuzzy digraphs and reasoning. The PCA and fuz...

Feature Interaction Detection using Backward Reasoning with LOTOS1

The problem of detecting feature interactions in telephone systems design is addressed. The method proposed involves specification of the features in LOTOS, and uses an analysis technique called backward reasoning. This is is implemented in LOTOS by a combination of backward and forward execution. A tool to help carry out backward execution is presented. A detailed example of the use of the tec...

Different Task Complexity Factors and Cognitive Individual ‎Differences: The Effects on EFL Writers’ Performance

This study aimed at examining the main and interaction effects of increased intentional reasoning demands, planning time, and also language learning aptitude on syntactic complexity, accuracy, lexical complexity, and fluency (CALF) of 226 EFL learners’ performance on letter writing tasks. The participants were first randomly assigned to three experimental groups to be given a task with differin...
